Social activist Aisha Yesufu has called on opposition leaders Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to adopt more practical approaches in their campaigns ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election, highlighting that economic struggles have left many citizens preoccupied with day-to-day survival.Nigerian culture blog

In a post on X on Thursday, Yesufu commented on a viral video showing a woman cursing critics after receiving rice from President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that the country’s worsening economic conditions mean political rhetoric alone may not resonate with the public.

She pointed out that poverty has become widespread, leaving many Nigerians more concerned with securing basic necessities than engaging in political debates.

Yesufu emphasized that citizens are experiencing hardship as a result of systemic neglect, with resources being diverted and the cost of food continuing to climb.

She stressed that even small acts of support can have a powerful impact on voters during such difficult times.Newspaper delivery service

The activist urged opposition parties to tailor their messages in ways that directly address the daily challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians, noting that hunger and financial stress make it difficult for people to focus on political ideas or policy discussions.

Yesufu wrote: “Citizens were deliberately impoverished, monies taken away from their pockets and food made expensive so that little tokens will matter to them.

“As we go into the 2027 election, the opposition must campaign to the people in the language the people will understand.

“For those who need bread, give them bread with your picture on it. For those who need policies, give them policy documents with your picture on it.

“A hungry man or woman cannot reason. He or she just wants the rumbling in their tummy to stop.”
