“THE BEIJING LEGACY FOR GLOBAL ADVANCEMENT AWARD
While in Nigeria , I was ably represented by my daughter, the lovely Ms Stephanie ( Administrative Director RMS)
at the award ceremony at the United Nations, New York
Once again –
Thank you for this prestigious nomination. THE BEIJING LEGACY FOR GLOBAL ADVANCEMENT AWARD
I humbly accept and dedicate
it to all the women who are quietly working towards Women’s empowerment and gender equality in the spirit of the BEIJING CONFERENCE in 1995.
The Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing, China, in 1995 was a historic conference, organized by the United Nations, and it brought together over 30,000 participants from 189 countries, including world leaders, activists, and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Some major outcomes included
A comprehensive framework advocating for women’s rights and gender equality in
12 critical areas –
education, health, violence against women, economic participation, and political representation.
Hillary Clinton, the then First Lady of the U.S., delivered her famous speech, stating:
“Human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights, once and for all.”
Since then many countries organizations committed to legal reforms and policies to empower women and end discrimination. Organizations like AFRICAN VIEWS who work to advance global peace through culture, have worked tirelessly to advance the rights of women. I am humbled by their recognition of health outreach programs by our clinic as we serve the women in our community and the tri state area.
The BEIJING CONFERENCE remains one of the most significant events in the history of the global women’s rights movement.
Thank you for the honor
Regina Askia Williams RN, MSN, FNP – BC”.
