Nigerian comedian Basketmouth is no stranger to telling it like it is. Known for his funny takes and ability to turn everyday struggles into comedy gold, he recently shared a hilarious yet painfully relatable video about life in Lagos. For anyone who’s ever lived in or visited the bustling city, the words in his video hit close to home, at least according to the people in his comments section. It is a funny rant. Here’s what Basketmouth had to say about Lagos, a city which according to him is an extreme sport.
Speaking about Lagos and listing 5 things that annoy him about the city in a joking way, Basketmouth said:
BASKETMOUTH: Lagos is stressful. Guy. Like, sometimes I can’t say I hate Lagos but sometimes Lagos na extreme sports. Like it will choke your neck.
I’m not talking about (1.) agberos wey dey some kain places where them go dey shout “baba, anything for the boys!” and spit go dey fly around.
And then (2.) let us leave those children wey dey for traffic jam, wey go carry one dirty rag dey rub your windscreen. Ha!
(3.) Before you turn go right, somebody wan sell you whether na Gala or rat poison or something. Everybody is just in your face advertising things.
(4.) You talk say okay, let me just drive at night. As you dey drive enter Lekki Phase 1, Admiralty Road, ashawo: yansh, yansh, yansh. Different types of yansh, different types of stretch marks, breasts wey go all kinds of different angles. Them go dey shout “oga, I know you, customer!”– no be say them do call me customer oh, but sometimes them dey annoying. “My customer, you no come today?” God punish you!
(5.) Okay, make I go church, go worship God, as you dey drive enter church, “ah oga, Canadian loud dey here o!” I dey enter church, you wan sell me. I dey go praise the most high, I no wan high.
Everybody just dey sell things. Na billboard everywhere.
