“My Child’s Father Is Alive, He Is Not Involved In Raising Her, I’m Raising Her Alone,” -Ini Edo
Nollywood actress Ini Edo has revealed that she had six miscarriages before deciding to have her daughter through surrogacy.
The 42-year-old star opened up about her struggles with fertility during the latest season of the reality show Young, Famous & African released on Netflix.
She shared how the heartbreak of repeated miscarriages led her to consider surrogacy, a decision she now cherishes deeply.
“I never thought I would have fertility issues, but I’ve had problems carrying pregnancies long-term,” Ini said, reflecting on the hurdles she faced.
Ini, famous for her roles in World Apart and Games Women Play, explained that as she approached her 40s, time became a crucial factor in her decision-making.
“When it wasn’t happening as I hoped and I wasn’t getting younger, I decided to explore my options. Surrogacy became the best path for me, and I’m very happy with my decision,” she revealed.
The actress also addressed her daughter’s paternity, disclosing that while the child’s father is alive, he is not involved in raising her. “I’m raising her alone,” she stated. “There was no man in my life at the time, but I wanted to have a child. There are different ways to go about that.”
Ini’s path to motherhood wasn’t just a personal choice but also a deeply emotional one. “It’s not something people just wake up and decide to do. For me, it wasn’t a fancy way out—I’ve always wanted to be a mother,” she explained.
Recalling her earlier expectations, Ini shared that she had envisioned a different life timeline. “I got married at the age of 26 because I thought that at 31, I would have been done with childbearing and I would have retired and faced my career. But life didn’t pan out that way. I tried. I have had over six miscarriages,” she admitted.
Ini’s marriage to businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008 ended in 2014 without children, leaving her to explore alternative ways to achieve her dream of motherhood.
