“I Don’t Want Britain To End Up Like Nigeria”- Kemi Badenoch Reveals, Recounts How Her Once-Wealthy Family Became Poorer Despite Working Harder, Due To The Failing Economic Conditions Caused By Ineffective Leadership
In her first speech of 2025, UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch made a bold statement, expressing her fear that Britain could one day mirror the challenges faced by Nigeria, a country where poor governance has led to widespread hardship.
Badenoch, who grew up in Nigeria before moving to the UK at age 16 with just £100 from her father, shared her personal experience of losing prosperity due to the devastating effects of inflation and government mismanagement. “I don’t want Britain to lose what it has,” she said, emphasizing the importance of “real conservatism” to ensure a “better, richer, and safer” future for younger generations.
She reflected on her childhood, watching her once-wealthy family become poorer despite working harder, due to the failing economic conditions caused by ineffective leadership. Having personally experienced the consequences of a “terrible government” in Nigeria, Badenoch stated that she would never want Britain to face similar destruction.
Her comments on Nigeria have not gone unnoticed. Previously, she had called Nigerian police “armed robbers,” criticizing the country’s law enforcement for its corruption and abuse of power. In response, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, reacted sharply, advising Badenoch to change her name if she wanted to distance herself from Nigeria, which he referred to as the “greatest black nation on earth.”
Badenoch’s comments underline her continuing criticism of Nigeria’s leadership and her passionate commitment to safeguarding the future of Britain.
