Oyo State Government Files 18-Count Criminal Charges Against Prophetess Naomi, Oriyomi Hazmat, Others
Oyo State Government has filed an 18-count criminal charges against the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdulahi Fasasi.
Naomi had gotten herself into trouble with her recent charity work. The mother of the crown prince, in collaboration with Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, owned by Oriyomi Hazmat, had organized an event to feed the less privileged. Unfortunately, the event led to the death of over 32 children which was caused by a stampede.
The former Queen was arrested alongside Hazmat, and were remanded by a Chief Magistrate at the Agodi Correctional Facility. They were arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.
In an update to the case, the three of them were accused of offenses including conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter, criminal negligence, and other related charges. The charge sheet said they failed to provide adequate security, crowd control mechanisms, and medical facilities during the ill-fated funfair event held at the Islamic High School.
The offence is punishable under Sections 308 and 344 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The news has left many fans and supporters of the former Queen disappointed.
