“We Didn’t Know Our Genotypes For 5 Years”- Couple Who Didn’t Check Their Genotype For Five Years Shares Their Fears
I tell you, this is one of the many things we overlook in our relationships, especially when you both start the relationship at a very young age.
She was 18, and I was 21 when we met.
I really caught her young 😀
We never knew we would come this far; we were just taking it one step at a time until we made it to the 5th year, and it started dawning on us that we were stuck for life.
That was when the thought of knowing our genotypes struck.
At that moment, all we had was fear and anxiety because we were thinking,
“What if we both turned out to be incompatible?”
Would the 5 years of building our relationship with deep commitment be a waste? I had imagined the events that might unfold if we both turned out to be incompatible, and it wasn’t a good thought.
Long story short, she had the courage to get her test done first.
She was AS, which made my heart skip even more beats.
What if I was also AS? God forbid, I whispered to myself.
For days, I lacked the courage to get mine done because of the pressure from her result. Well, I took a leap of faith and had it done.
While at it, the lab technician told me stories of occurrences like mine and how they turned out.
We laughed over some, and I tried to cheer myself up.
“Congratulations!” were his first words to me when he came out of the lab.
That single gesture from him brought me immense joy as he allayed all my fears.
A heavy burden was lifted off me, and I felt so alive because I thought I might lose my 5-year relationship.
When I called my partner, I wanted to play a huge prank on her, but thinking about the effect it might cause made me lay down my arms and share the good news instead:
“Baby, I’m AA.” I told you I’d be AA. Now I could brag.
So, the question is, do you and your partner know your genotypes?
Okay, let me shock you with this one:
Do you know your HIV status?
Did your heart skip a beat?
Hahaha, I got you there! Sorry.”
