Why Raising Boys In Today’s Society Is So Challenging – Deyemi Okanlawon

Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, is not only a mega superstar actor, he is also a father of three sons and is in a new interview with Diary of a Niaja Girl, talking about the confusion that comes in trying to raise them, especially with today’s world and ever changing dynamics between men and women. Deyemi made the revelation during a conversation about how modern dating has changed, but the rules still seem confusing because it looks like as much as men are supposed to change, they’re also being asked not to change too much. Here is what Deyemi had to say about the whole thing.

Deyemi and sons
Speaking about how the dynamics between men and women have changed in today’s world, and why it has become so confusing for him, especially while trying to raise 3 sons, Deyemi Okanlawon said:

DEYEMI OKANLAWON: Relationship between man and woman has changed, and it has changed primarily because women have become more liberated and empowered. And for a lot of people, that’s a positive thing. But what I’m also seeing is that men are now forced to look at dating and relationships through the lens of the modern woman. So men did not naturally evolve into being modern men, they adapted into it because women evolved. So you can’t deal with a modern woman with archaic ideas.

But then even with the modern man trying to adapt, he’s still being told “don’t adapt too much o! Don’t go and think that because we have money now, you should go and relax. No no no, you’re still bound by traditional rules. BUT, by the way, now my opinion must stand equal to yours.” It is confusing.

These are questions I am asking, not just for myself, but for my 3 sons. How do I raise my boys in a way that they retain 100% of their masculinity but at the same time are adapted enough to deal and relate with the modern woman. So that means I have to change and adapt too so I can teach them.
