“I Woke Up The Other Day And I Saw My Name Was On A List, Of Gays”-AY Finally Speaks Out On How He Felt About Being On Gistlover’s List

About three weeks ago, social media was set abuzz when controversial Nigerian blogger, Gistlover, posted three batches of names including celebrities, politicians, and other public figures that the blogger alleged to be gay. It was a post that came out of nowhere, and was unsubstantiated by any other proof. Yet, the lists caught on like wildfire and the people on the list became the center of conversation on that day.

Among the people listed was Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY. Now, during an interview with The Glasshouse, the comedian and actor is opening up about how he felt being included on the list. Here’s what AY had to say.

Speaking about how he felt to be included on Gistlover’s list of gay celebrities, AY said:

AY: I woke up the other day and I saw my name was on a list, list of gays. Not just my name, but my own baby brother, also names of two family members, we made the list. Really? Okay.

Now why that is painful and insulting for someone like me is that not too long ago, the same social media space refused for me to do my show in the UK. It was trending everywhere. What was the reason? That I was fighting against the gay community. People carried placard, they came to the venue saying that AY would not do his show and they were asking the UK government to ban AY from coming in.

Then the same social media space, you come again, the wife left him because he took out women. Choose one na. Can’t you people just choose one thing.

I have come to understand that if you pay too much attention to yourself as a man, it is a problem. So if you want to rub powder or you want to make sure say you cream your body, there must be something about you that is extraordinary, that will make you be the other gender.
