Life After Breaking World Record – Hilda Baci Gets Very Honest

Popular Nigerian chef and world record breaker Hilda Baci is getting honest about how life has been since the Cook-A-Thon that launched her into national consciousness and led to her breaking a Guinness World Record. Since then, life has happened and during a new interview on CreativiTEA, the star chef tells us all about the changes. Here’s what Hilda had to say.

Speaking about how life has been since breaking the world record, Hilda Baci said:

HILDA BACI: It’s been a very interesting time since the Cook-A-Thon and I would say I had such a great professional year, but emotionally, it was hectic.

It was a bit of a hectic year for me just cause, when you’re thrown into the light, people are—and I understand because I also know that when you are hoping for certain breakthroughs in life, and then you probably see someone that’s the same age as you or younger than you, and you’re like this person is doing so well. Sometimes, to be able to deal with how your life is, you need to find something negative to hold on to. Causr it makes it easier for you to get by the day, it makes it easier for you to cope.

I said it one time in my class, that if I sell food and you sell food, and you haven’t made a million naira before, and we’re selling the same food, and I tell you I’ve made a million naira. To be able to deal with the fact that you haven’t made a million naira because you can’t see it possible, you would say “no there’s no way, maybe she’s doing jazz or something.” Like you have to find a cushion and that is kinda how sometimes, some people’s brain works.

So it was a bit hectic because I also knew there was a lot of expectation on me, not just from the general public, but from my immediate friends and family as well. Obviously, your friends they love you, but they’re also waiting like ‘is she going to change?’ I remember one time, I remember speaking to one friend of mine and she was like ‘I didn’t want to call you cause I thought you’re busy’ and I was like you and I know that if I wasn’t the Hilda Baci of today, you would have called me. So why won’t you call me?

So I understood that I have to make the extra effort to make my friends know that it’s still the same thing because it’d be nice if they did that for me as well. So that’s exactly what I did. So I know that a lot is expected of me, so I have to be more vocal, I have to be more expressive, I have to be more upfront, because things just go flying around the place. And you just want to focus on who you are at the end of the day because if you’re not, you will be drowned in the noise.
