There Is A Legal Battle Unfolding Over The Execution Of Late Herbert Wigwe’s Will

There is fire in the mountain in the Wigwe household according to new reports by the Daily Independent.

Now, in the aftermath of the untimely death that came for Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the former Group Managing Director of Access Holdings, there is a legal battle unfolding over the execution of his will. Dr. Wigwe who was a prominent figure in the Nigerian banking sector passed away in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, 2024 and his untimely death which not only left the nation mourning and in disarray, has now also triggered family disputes over his very substantial estate. Here’s everything you missed.

What’s Happening?

According to reports by the Daily Independent, family members of Herbert Wigwe have initiated legal action by filing a caveat at the Probate Registry. The move is aimed at contesting the distribution of his estate as it was laid out in the will he left behind.

What’s worse? The legal action was reportedly orchestrated by Dr. Wigwe’s own father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, and supported by an affidavit from Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, who claims to be Herbert’s cousin.

They are seeking to revise the directives in Herbert’s will regarding how his assets should be managed with the primary point of contention stemming from Pastor Shyngle Wigwe’s request that 20% of Herbert’s estate be allocated to him and other family members.

This demand for 20% directly opposes the stipulations in Herbert’s will, which directed that his wealth be distributed solely among his children. Before his untimely passing, Herbert Wigwe had officially lodged his will at the Ikeja Probate Court, ensuring his estate would be managed according to his wishes.

However, since Dr. Wigwe’s death, tensions within the family have spilled into the public eye, especially on social media, where conflicting narratives have emerged. Observers as reported by the Daily Independent have noted an unsettling shift from mourning to a focus on money, with some family members’ motives coming under scrutiny.

Additionally, reports have surfaced about discord within the Wigwe family, including the detention of Herbert’s brother, Emeka Wigwe, at Panti Police Station for three months. This incident, allegedly orchestrated by Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, was the result of a dispute between Emeka and another sibling, further highlighting deepening rifts within the family following Dr. Wigwe’s passing.

As Dr. Wigwe’s friends, colleagues, and associates continue to mourn his passing, the ongoing family tensions have garnered public attention and concern. And as the legal proceedings continue, it remains uncertain how this battle will impact Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s legacy and the future of his surviving children.
