2 Things I Hated About This Season Of Big Brother – Ebuka Opens Up

Now that this year’s season of Big Brother Naija is over, people are getting candid about their thoughts on the show overall. And who’s better to hear from than the Big Brother host himself, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

During a new interview with Toke Makinwa for The Buzz, Ebuka opened up about the good, but also TWO bad sides about the Big Brother show this season. Here is what the ever-stylish TV host had to say.

During the interview, Ebuka was asked “What do you feel about this season of Big Brother Naija?” to which he said:

EBUKA: [laughs] Okay, there’s good and bad. So, the good is that I think there has been a belief that Big Brother has to be a certain way. People want to see the fights, the drama, all of that. And I think it’s okay to have a show where it’s not all about who is quarrelling with who, who broke whose head, and all of that. So I think Nigerians couldn’t really understand that shift from fights everyday to a show that people that love ships where eating good this season.

Now, the bad is that:

[1.] I think these are the safest game players we’ve ever had. We have people who came in with a pre-conceived notion of what they wanted out of the show. They had walls. We had people in their shells, not wanting to show too much. And for me, there are 2 pillars of Big Brother anywhere in the world: it’s a social experiment, you’re trying to see human interaction and how it looks like. And secondly, but ultimately, it is an entertainment show. So you have to still entertain on the show. A lot of the housemates were more focused on after the show and what they were going to become, forgetting that you entertain first and that is when you now blow to get the after.

[2.] I think the pairing also. I think what Big Brother does to you is that it gets in your head, you’re isolated. When you get pushed to the wall, you crack. But when you have a pair and you get pushed to the wall, you go to your pair and you lean on them. Or you don’t want to react because you don’t want to jeopardize your pair’s situation. So the pairing also brought that little bit. And by the time they split them up, the mood was already set in the house and it was too late.
