Why I Was Trying To Have A Baby This Year And What Changed My Mind – Mercy Eke Opens Up

Popular media personality, businesswoman, and Big Brother Naija winner Mercy Eke is opening up during a new interview with Kenes Gloww about having a baby out of wedlock, why she planned to do it this year, and what stopped her. Here’s everything Mercy said.

During the interview, Mercy was asked “How many kids would you want to have and do you see that happening soon?” to which she replied:

MERCY EKE: Yes. In fact this year, I wanted to have a baby this year. I wanted to have a baby this year then something happened, and then I had to choose between that and the baby.

“So you wanted to have a baby separate from the natural course of getting married and then having it through that?”

MERCY EKE: Yeah! At this point, I think if I get pregnant now, I’m just going to have my baby. I’ve worked so hard that I think that I can take care of myself. I can take care of three kids. I’m a goal oriented person. I always set something for myself. And so now, I have one more [goal] and I think once I accomplish that, or in the process of doing that; in fact, if I get pregnant now, I think I would have the baby. Maybe God doesn’t even want it. I don’t want to force it. I don’t want to think too much about it. I don’t want to go the extra miles to. But if it just happens, I will leave it and I will have my baby. And I want three kids. Two girls, one boy. Or three girls. [If God gives me 4 boys], problem o! God abeg o, you said you will give us what we want. You said we should name it.

“But having kids without a father, what do you think?”

MERCY EKE: For me and I will speak for myself. One thing people don’t know is that all this stigma applies to people that don’t really have things going on well for them. If you see the women that are shattering glasses, men are begging them for marriage. Like this, if I want to marry tomorrow, it’s just that what I want, I’ve not seen it. It’s not like there’s no husband, there are plenty. You see the way women are scheming for the kind of men they want to marry, men are also scheming for the kind of women they want to marry. You think men don’t want to marry me? They know they’re coming to enjoy na. So, if I have a baby, I will still see a man.
