“Women Live Longer Than Men And A Lot Of Men Say That It’s Because Of This Pressure?”- IK Osakioduwa Speaks On The Pressure Men Encounter
Nigerian presenter and ace TV host IK Osakioduwa is opening up about one of the major reasons why men, especially in romantic relationships, feel a lot of pressure. Here’s what he said.
During his interview with News Central TV, IK Osakioduwa was asked “We’ve heard a lot about the pressures that men face. With the economic pressures, is it practical for men to bear 100% of the responsibility knowing that they don’t often have the support systems and the outlets that women have?
Women live longer than men and a lot of men say that it’s because of this pressure?” IK responded:
IK OSAKIODUWA: Let me speak to that. We have to become a little bit more realistic. I consider myself a HSPO, a husband service provider. I hook people up, it’s my favorite thing to do when I’m not working, and I’d often ask a lady who I’m speaking to “what are you looking for? Be honest?”
Most people say “I want a God fearing man, he doesn’t have to be rich, but he has to be comfortable,” and that’s where this problem starts from.
The biggest question is our definition of comfortable. We have to come back to reality and say who is comfortable? And what is comfort? If comfort is paying your bills, paying the school fees and all those things, that is something no man should complain about. The problem is the high jump. The high jump comes from ‘I want to go on holiday every year’, not every person can afford that realistically speaking. And if you’re willing to go on holiday every year, are you willing to accept that some of those holidays are not outside Africa? Or that some of those holidays are within Nigeria? Like for example, this holiday, we are doing Ibadan and Abuja. Are you willing to accept that? If you are not willing to accept that and you want the high jump of I must travel every year and some women want to travel three, four times a year, I’ve met a woman who wants to travel every six weeks abroad.
That’s where the problem comes from. That’s when the pressure becomes unrealistic. But if it’s just down to the basics of school fees, house rent, it will be tough, but that’s what men are. We are supposed to be tough. So, if you are the right mix of comforting and caring, he will be willing to take on that battle of the toughness.
