Adeyanju Visits Market, Raises Alarm As Tomatoes Hit N25k Per Basket

Human Rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju voiced his concerns on Sunday over rising food prices in Nigeria.

He highlighted the soaring cost of basic food items, particularly noting that a small basket of tomatoes now costs as much as N25,000.

Adeyanju captured the scene at Farm’s Market in Maitama, Abuja, expressing distress over the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.

He emphasized the increasing burden of living costs amidst widespread inflation.

He criticized the Bola Tinubu-led government, saying its priorities are skewed towards luxuries, like purchasing a new private jet for the president, while many struggle to afford essential food items.

Adeyanju pointed out that tomatoes were being sold for N25,000, which symbolizes the economic challenges and inequalities that ordinary Nigerians are facing.

This is especially concerning as food inflation reached 40.66 percent in May 2024.
