When asked about what he likes about Simi and about working with her, Adekunle Gold said:
ADEKUNLE GOLD: I’m married to Simi FOR LIFE! Working with Simi is always beautiful.
- Simi and I have been in the studio for songs that never even made it out, for some projects and all, and every time we feel like damn! We’re really good you know, together. She mixed the Gold album, mastered the Gold album. About 30, she mixed some. That was another way that we enjoyed working with each other. Then, I learned how to record myself and I became impatient – I don’t have time for anybody to record me anymore so we kinda stopped working there.
- Simi is my first A & R. Every song I write in the studio, I send to her, just to get the vibe. Because Simi is a crazy songwriter that I feel like everybody knows, but we don’t talk about it enough. I don’t know how many people can write like ten songs on one beat. Me, once I write one song on one beat, I’m done, there’s no point. Simi will like go again and I’m like wait why? And it’s different songs. It’s crazy. Her range is insane. Songwriters that I rate in this world, she’s of course top five for me. She’s incredible. So having somebody like that on my beck and call is a huge blessing for me.
- She helps me get better of course. She tells me “hmm, I think you’re past that now, you’re past such lyric now. I think since you’re claiming bad boy, you can make it spicier than that.” She tells me things like that and I’m like yeah, that’s what I need. She’s never been a yes-person for me and that is one of the things I really respect. And I’m privileged to be able to co-write a Simi song, because when she writes, it’s like okay, what else am I going to say? Before I used to struggle with that because I’m like “ah, omo, what am I going to say?” But I’ve gotten so good as well so I’m like “no, I don’t like that. I think that can be better.” So it’s beautiful to have somebody that is that crazy at this craft in my side. It’s a blessing.
