How Folorunsho Alakija Doesn’t Joke With Her Family, She’s Still In Love With Her Husband, After 40 Years Of Marriage

The richest Nigerian woman and Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil Limited, Folorunsho Alakija, has proven that it is possible for one to make an impact in different fields of human endeavour at the same time.

She is not just a businesswoman, she is also a wife, mother and philanthropist, who is passionate about her family and God’s work.

Alakija, who is the founder of the Rose of Sharon Foundation, constantly speaks about her Christian faith.

In an Instagram post on March 6, 2023, she stated that prayer had got her out of several challenging situations. She wrote, “Prayer has been my lifeline as a Christian, especially during challenging times. It is in those moments of seeking guidance and connecting with God that I find strength and clarity.”

In recognition of her positive strides, she was conferred with an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from Chrisland University, Ogun State. Informing her followers of the award, she wrote on Instagram,

“While I am humbled that the school conferred such an honour on me, I am most grateful to God, the King of glory, who made all these possible.”

Also, Alakija does not joke with her family, even as she stated that she was still in love with her husband, after 40 years of marriage.

Meanwhile, her dress sense can be described as ‘classy and moderate’. However, she has stopped wearing jewelleries, and only applies mild make-up.

Speaking on why her dress sense changed, she told Sunday PUNCH in an earlier interview, “It is not because of apostleship. By November (2021), it would have been two years that God told me (in a dream) to stop wearing wigs. When I woke up, I said, ‘God, if this is you speaking, then you have to confirm it through others before I would take any step.’ About 10 days later, I got a call from a married couple that God said ‘no more wigs’. I screamed and right there, I undid my braids and did an afro work.

“Meanwhile, I had just bought 12 wigs of different types and colours from England.”

Speaking on what has sustained her marriage, she said, “The native intelligence is communication, sitting down to talk about issues and not lumping them up until one becomes bitter. As for us, we decided that we were going to treat all our children equally and that is what we did. One of the rules we put in place was that we did not want to have any child that would come home with funny hairstyles.”

She and her husband, Modupe, are blessed with four sons and grandchildren.
