Lecturer In UK, Dr. Dipo Awojide, Speaks On Upskilling, For Those Who Want To Stay Relevant, & Remain Employable

Dipo Awojide, a senior lecturer in Strategy at Nottingham Trent University has shared ways one can upskill themselves to stay relevant, employable and advance their careers. He shared the advantages of upskilling and how one can achieve it.

Sharing on his Instagram page, he wrote:

One major thing that has helped advance my career in the last 15 years is UPSKILLING. “Upskilling is the process of learning additional skills and competencies and improving your existing knowledge to keep up with new trends.”

Its importance cannot be overemphasized. Upskilling has some advantages. I shall list a few below:

•It helps improve your value and your employability
•More job opportunities become available to you
•Your job security ultimately increases
•Your productivity, motivation and job satisfaction increases

You can upskill yourself by doing some of the following:

•Engage in job shadowing
•Take online courses or certifications
•Get a new qualification (MA, MSc, MBA ,LLM or PhD)
•Attend personal and professional development events
•Read books and industry journals
•Network and surround yourself with smart people
•Focus on soft skills (soft skills set you up for success)

If you want to stay relevant, remain employable and advance your career you need to stay in touch with current trends and upskill yourself. As I have noted above, upskilling has helped me achieve my career goals and it can help you too. I am rooting for you!
