Young Nigerian Lawyer Excited As He Appears At Court For The Very First Time
Nigerian Man naned Ayomide Johnson whose profile shows he’s an International Human Rights Lawyer is elated to appear at court for the very first time in his career.
Ayomide who’s glad to fulfill his teenage dreams went further to share few motivating words.
Read his post below as shared on LinkedIn:
My first court appearance was on Wednesday 18th January, 2023 at the Federal high court. I appeared alongside Adegoke Valentina as Public Interest attorneys for international human rights organisation, SERAP Nigeria.
The two separate suits I appeared in were against the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria and some federal agencies and that was quite a learning experience.
Half a decade ago, I was barely out of teenage-hood and a counsel at the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition organised by the University of Pretoria and hosted by the University of Ghana.
It’s a dream come true going from representing imaginary clients at a moot competition to actually having the interest of 214 million Nigerian scribbled across my case files. Nevertheless, much more needs to be done. Albeit, one step at a time.
While checking public officers, we should check ourselves and check our approach as well. We can’t engineer political change at the federal level without addressing the grassroots— tiny drops of checks on your local counsellor, constitutency lawmakers makes a mighty ocean of checks on the Presidency.
Let’s check ourselves as well. The leadership is only a reflection of the followership. We can’t decry corruption when we indirectly benefit from it. Like my dad says, “one step at a time, one step at a time..”
