Read her post below as shared on LinkedIn:
I resigned from my teaching position to focus 100% on UX design.
Today was my last day teaching after being an Elementary Special Education Teacher for 5 1/2 years. I decided to resign because even after obtaining my UI/UX certification and working on freelance projects, I still felt like my title was teacher first, designer second.
Impostor syndrome was real. I wanted to feel like a designer, but not landing a UX job for the past 6 months really made me have an identity crisis – a professional identity crisis.
Quitting teaching is bittersweet. I love my students, but I know it’s time to let the “teacher” title go to pursue my next career fully.
As a teacher, my superpower was creating content for my students, with their needs top of mind. I am grateful I can apply my skills in education to UX because if anyone can find a creative, quick, and effective solution to a problem on the spot, it’s me 🙋🏽♀️
I’m excited for this new chapter and optimistic that with more free time and mental energy, I will land my first full-time UX position soon. Wish me luck!
