From Ibadan🇳🇬 to the United States of America🇺🇸 From actively seeking Msc/Ph.D. positions to Graduate Research Assistant🙈
Today makes it exactly a month since I left Nigeria to pursue my graduate studies at Kansas State University
Before completing my bachelor’s degree, I had two things I wanted to accomplish; to complete my National Youth Service and to get a fully funded scholarship before the completion. I had always wanted to study abroad. I applied to schools in Ghana after high school but fortunately, I found myself at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), although I didn’t graduate with a first class I topped my class😶.
Well, I didn’t stop pursuing my abroad dreams. After undergoing a series of internships at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), I knew I wanted to explore knowledge in a more international setting, acquire an international degree, gain global exposure, learn cutting-edge skills, and thrive in other people’s cultures.
I had applied to various schools and for various scholarships but ended up getting rejection letters (this made me wax stronger) and then I wrote to God for a 2022 gift. Funnily, God answered my prayer 6months after I wrote a request to him (I’m fond of writing letters to God and I’m not stopping🤫).
So far so good, it has been a wonderful experience. Being the first African student of my advisor, to having friends from different parts of the world. I have explored a plethora of cultural diversity and I am amazed at how much I have learned in the past weeks.
I want to specially thank God almighty, for giving me the privilege to write in words to Him when my tongue failed me, for making my dreams valid, and for not limiting his possibilities in my life. I want to thank my family and friends for keeping up with me, my lecturers.
