Lami : Is An Insurance Technology Firm, Founded By Kenyan Innovator, Jihan Abass To Improve Insurance Coverage In Africa
Digital Insurance as a service with the Kenyan Innovator, Jihan Abass.
Jihan Abass is the founder and CEO of Lami and a successful entrepreneur from Kenya.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Finance from CASS Business School in London and an MBA from the University of Oxford.
Lami is a Nairobi, Kenya-based insurance technology firm and Griffin Insurance is a digital car insurance provider. Jihan established Lami in an effort to improve insurance coverage in Africa. Jihan’s flagship product, the Griffin Motor App, has reduced the time it takes to obtain auto insurance to under two minutes.
The lack of infrastructure to enable the simple distribution of insurance services, served as Jihan’s inspiration for launching Lami as she transitioned from a profession in fine arts to entrepreneurship in insurance.
Although there are many insurance companies in Africa, fewer than 3% of the population is covered by a safety net, and Lami is closing this gap.
Future ambitions and objectives for Lami include generating one billion dollars in premiums and providing insurance to a large number of individuals. Lami seeks to act as a safety net, and it uses technology to accomplish this.
When it comes to bridging the gap for women founders going into fintech, Jihan stated that , “There’s a need for quality mentorship for young women and young girls to actually show them that entrepreneurship is a viable option as a career path for them.”
