Indian Couple Who Met On LinkedIn Shares Love Story, They Both Went To The Same College But Never Spoke To Each Other, Today, They Are Engaged
“In a generation that uses dating apps, Shalin & I found each other on LinkedIn! Funny thing, we went to the same college but never spoke. We often saw each other when he dated an acquaintance. But I never gave him much thought. So, when we connected on LinkedIn, I accepted his request & moved on.
When he asked, ‘Are there any openings in your company for my friend?,’ I said, ‘I’ll look into it!’
But he was in Boston, so I asked if he was safe – COVID was spreading. Our conversations progressed to our careers, then to life & childhood. Eventually, he asked for my phone number; I obliged.
After we got more comfortable, we started video calling each other, & watched movies together – Crazy Rich Asians became our favourite!
He’d write me sweet letters saying how happy he is. And over 5 months, we became best friends.
So when he came back to Bombay, I was excited about our 1st meet — we went for a long drive & after that, aimless 6 hour drives became our thing. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. We had a big fight once—I don’t even remember what it was about now. But in the heat of that argument, Shalin said, ‘Can’t you see I’m acting out because I love you?’
I felt so awkward. Truth be told, I didn’t know how I felt about him. So instead, I pretended it never happened. He must have been embarrassed too, because he didn’t bring it up again.
We continued being friends. And in December, he made a cheeseboard for me, played carols & gave me lots of gifts—he still cared.
So a few days later, fueled by gin & tonics, all I could think about was him. I drunk-texted him, ‘I love you.’ He immediately called me, ‘This is how you tell me the 1st time?’
That’s how our story began. After that our hang-outs became official dates. He still made romantic gestures, & I was still floored by them. And when we got engaged in 2021, it was beautiful!
Today, as we fall deeper in love, we learn new things about each other everyday, too! Like when he told me his friend actually never asked him to message me on LinkedIn—it wasn’t destiny, but Shalin’s own will trying to bring us together! I only wish he would’ve done it sooner.”
