From Taking Care Of Her Sick Parents, Walking Long Distances To School, Sleeping On An Empty Stomach, Lady Becomes A Successful Medical Doctor
SHE FINALLY MADE IT!!!
Meet – Dr Faith Mumba, inspirational Medical Doctor at Aurthur Davison Children’s Hospital in Ndola, Zambia.
Being the oldest in her family, she had to help take care of her sick father as her mother would go and look for greener pastures. And because of what she endured, she developed a keen interest in learning more about the disease and through that, she developed a passion to take care of the sick. From that moment, she knew she wanted to become a doctor.
Against all odds, she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Zambia.
“From taking care of my sick parents, walking long distances to school, sleeping on an empty stomach, being chased from school and dropping out, dealing with depression to achieving something great. My journey to becoming a Doctor has not been an easy one.”
But, I don’t regret going through what I went through, I don’t regret the sleepless nights and every failure I encountered because all that made me stronger.”
“I lost my father to HIV/AIDs and I grew up seeing him deteriorate from the disease. Being the oldest in my family, I had to help take care of my sick father as my mother would go and look for greener pasture. All this had an impact on my social, emotional, psychological, and physical well being.”
“And because of what I endured, I developed a keen interest in learning more about the disease and through that, I developed a passion to take care of the sick. From that moment, I knew I wanted to become a doctor.”
“After the death of my father, my mother became sick and this also affected me even more. Having to go to school and going back home to take care of my sick mother. But all this did not stop me from achieving my goals. I worked even harder and years later I managed to enroll at the University of Zambia to study Medicine and never looked back.”
“I celebrate this achievement. I celebrate the woman I am today. I celebrate the fighting spirit within me. I celebrate having not given up on myself because in the end it was all worth it and hopefully one day, I will be able to inspire other young girls with BIG DREAMS out there,” said Dr Faith Mumba.
