Read his testimony below, as shared on LinkedIn;
I am super excited to announce that I will be pursuing a fully-funded PhD program in the department of Chemistry at Marquette University, USA🇺🇸.
My research would be focused on developing new materials – nanobots that operate independently to travel within the human body for disease treatment and early cancer diagnosis, with further applications in next generation technologies such as electronics, information science and renewable energy.
Getting admitted to Marquette University, the largest private university in the state of Wisconsin is what I consider as a major step in my career trajectory and I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity.
Applying to Grad school was pretty demanding. Zero exaggerations. In fact, at a time I was skeptical of whether or not to apply to schools abroad yet because I didn’t write GRE and any of the English proficiency tests due to financial constraints.
The option I had was to put in a strong application by leveraging on my transcript/first class degree, resume, statement of purpose and recommendation letters, and I then gave it a shot and that was it. No GRE, no IELTS/TOEFL, however, with grace factor two fully funded direct PhD offers rolled out viz.
Marquette University and University of Arkansas at Little Rock (NB: I strongly encourage applicants to write those tests as they boost your chances and ace your competitiveness).
A quick word for prospective grad students, never say you’re unqualified until you’ve given it your best shots! Truth is, it always seems impossible until it’s done. So true that dreams are valid, but the only dreams that are truly valid are the ones you stand up to strive for and make happen!
None of this would be possible without the grace of God and the immeasurable supports I received from the amazing people He blessed me with. My profound gratitude to my mentor Adekunle James Omoboye for taking out time to guide me through the application process. Thanks a lot for being a big part of my success.
I’m beyond grateful to Sodiq Waheed, Isaiah Adelabu, Temitayo Falola and Olajide Adetunji for their encouragements and supports. They believed in me and gave me their full supports. To my undergraduate lecturers, I can’t thank you enough for writing stellar recommendation letters for me.
Many thanks to Johnson Oluwatuyi Nelson, Komolafe Abiola Moshood, Taiwo Olawuyi, Emmanuella Ejichukwu, and Omogbolahan Idowu for preparing me adequately for my visa interview. I sincerely appreciate all your efforts. A big shout out to my friends Humphrey Teurai Chiromo, Taiwo Fasae and James Nyakuchena for settling me in and making my transition experience a smooth one.
I’ve come this far because of the emotional and overall support I received from my family. And to everyone who has supported me directly or indirectly on this journey, I say a very big thank you and God bless you all.
Today was my first day in grad school. Tips for navigating a PhD program are welcome.
Ready to get right into it!
