KOOLBOKS: A Tech Brand, Has Come To Bridge The Refrigeration Gap In Nigeria With Solar-Powered Refrigeration System- Meet Ayoola Dominic

With the epileptic power supply threatening businesses, particularly those in the frozen food industry in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, a firm, Koolboks, has introduced innovations that aim to restructure the way the new world interacts with outdoors and other events requiring long hours cooling system.

Speaking on the initiative, President and Co-Founder of Koolboks, Ayoola Dominic said the firm aim to bridge the gap in the three basic needs of Nigerians, which are light, energy, and refrigeration, stating that the company has introduced ranges of cooling and freezing products that will bring succour to businesses and homes.

According to him, vaccine storage in the health sector has been a major challenge in the country due to epileptic power supply, but the firm’s vaccine fridges, designed to address these challenges come equipped with external LED bulbs to aid sight at night and other emergencies and also two USB ports to charge mobile phones.

“It is designed with an advanced temperature monitoring system that enables the user to remotely access, monitor and control the vaccine fridge from anywhere in the world, even in rural areas with no GSM network coverage,” he said.

Dominic made the remark at a press conference in Lagos recently to showcase the innovative products.

He stated that with a range of products that will bridge the gap in the cooling system in the country, Koolboks has come with innovations that would give hope to those in the cooling value chain.

According to him, the cooling systems are ideal for use in on and off-grid areas, noting that the Koolboks vaccine fridge is designed to preserve vaccine potency in the recommended 2-8C ideal temperature window and is built with an ice thermal storage that provides constant refrigeration for up to 88 hours without a power supply or sunlight.

“The freezer is unique in the sense that it has two USB ports for charging of phones and also has an automatic switch between AC and DC, with a two 150W solar panel and it comes with as low as N14, 179 installment payment.

“With two external LED bulbs, you are sure that even without power in the house, you can light up your apartment and it comes with installment payment and with three years warranty.

“With this model, Nigerians can pay a small monthly fee to access the cooling service and receive regular routine maintenance of the solar power systems and fridges.

“This is a product that without power can refrigerate your food, drinks and medications for up to four days even in the absence of sunlight. Our mission is to make cooling affordable and accessible to everyone that needs it.

“Koolboks would be launching a pilot programme in Delta State to provide 30 vaccine solar fridges to healthcare facilities in rural areas in the state and is already in talks with LaGazelle, France to set up a local assembly plant in Nigeria,” he said.
