From a scholarship email rejection in Europe in 2021 to securing a fully funded scholarship in the United States of America in 2022

I’m humbled and excited to share that I will be starting my master’s program in the United States of America this Fall 2022, where I will study Sustainable Peacebuilding at the College of Nursing, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM).

I have nursed this dream of studying abroad for over five years to develop my personal and professional competency. But I had no idea when and how to go about it, but I wasn’t afraid to shoot beyond the star, knowing that I might fall between the moon.

I applied for twenty-seven (27) scholarship applications, and sent twelve (12) cold emails within three (3) application circles between 2019 – 2022, with 26 rejections.

In 2021, I shared a short story about my scholarship rejection after an email acceptance.

I did a “SWOT analysis” and capitalized on my strength while strengthening my network, learning, and impacting more people through my work in the development space.

Out of the 27 applications I made, I got to the Chevening interview stage twice within two (2) application circles, placed on a reserve for one (1) Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and also gained two (2) admissions to the US. But after several attempts and back-to-back interviews, I got the Institute of System Change and Peacebuilding Fellowship at UWM.

I’m super grateful to God Almighty.
