Lady Who Contemplated
Putting University On Hold After Seeing Her Dad On Life Support, Graduates With 1st Class
An heartbroken Lady named Obehi Osebor has narrated how her dad died and at some point she contemplated putting her University on hold, but she later conquered as she graduated with a First Class in BSc Digital Healthcare Science from the University of Warwick.
Sharing her story in a lengthy post on LinkedIn, she wrote:
Those close to me are aware that the past 3 years have been a rollercoaster of emotions, with the last few months being particularly difficult.
Going into the new year and finding out that my Dad had been transferred into the ICU and was on life support was heartbreaking and a terrible way to start off 2022.
I continued to push through and used university as a way to distract myself.
Fast forward to a month later and being told that the doctors had done everything they could and that they were going to withdraw treatment was heartbreaking. I was devastated, contemplated putting university on hold and accepted that I may not be able to graduate as scheduled this year.
I spent my time in the ICU watching helplessly, as my Dad deteriorated. It was the most difficult experience I have ever had, harder than any university degree.
After the funeral I got back into the swing of things with a commitment to making an impact in medicine using digital technology.
My dissertation was on the impacts of speech recognition technology on the accuracy and efficiency of clinical documentation, and I achieved a score of 75%.
I graduated with a First Class in BSc Digital Healthcare Science from the University of Warwick.
I also received the Professor Ed Peile award for Best Overall Performance from WMG, University of Warwick.
I dedicate my degree to my Dad, Alex Osebor, who couldn’t make it to my graduation but was so excited to attend. And my Mum, who has been my rock through everything.
I thank my family and friends who have been extremely supportive and uplifting during the most difficult year of my life.
Finally, I thank God for giving me resilience and strength to continue at my weakest moments.
Now, the grad job hunt begins!
I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between technology and healthcare and exploring ways in which patient outcomes can be improved using artificial intelligence.
Feel free to message me with opportunities in this area.
