REJECTION

Anthony Dzamefe

My experience on rejection is quite an interesting one.
When I got the idea to start hawking watches, I didn’t think of starting my own brand at the time.

I only hawked foreign watch brands. Some I imported and some I acquired from local suppliers. A few very “big men” that I happened to be “friends” with patronized and supported me.
When time went by and I got to the stage of starting my own brand, I thought raising capital to start my brand was going to be easy because I knew “big men” who believed in me and I thought they would invest.

Especially when they raised the investment discussions with me themselves. It became a wild goose chase after I handed over my business plan to them.

I even started losing some of these friendships because of my search for their investment.

I gave up and started small. Building my dream brick by brick,One day at a time. One sale after another. This was not easy at all and sometimes I was overwhelmed by the challenges.

Along the way I still sought for help. The hotel I resigned from was recruiting again. I approached a “rich” uncle for help and he redirected me to go back to the hotel I resigned from.

I went back to the hotel and the manager who happened to be my friend refused to take me back in very indirect ways. She would make me go and come back and after several ups and downs I realized the writing on the wall was clear enough so I gave up and went back to focusing on my brick by brick business building.

Again, I tried one other man for investments. He looked at my business plan, looked at me with a smile and told me that the money I was looking for and the equity I was willing to give at the time, I would very much regret a few years later so I should go back and be patient and keep building my brand little by little and not be desperate to enter investment partnerships that I would regret later.

I did not understand and I was not happy. I regarded it another failed attempt and went back to continue my brand. 4years later now of building my business slaloming through Herculean challenges, I have come to understand and know without a doubt that I wouldn’t have had all the experience and wouldn’t depeend the roots of my business structure this much if I hadn’t built it with patience, brick by brick.

If I had received some huge amount of money to start my business with, I would probably have made mistakes in its management due to lack of experience.

The amount of investment I sought back then and was willing to give some significant equity for, I make more than that amount monthly now in profits. If that hotel manager had taken me back, I would have been working there still by now, earning less than I pay my workers now.

It’s normal to not understand it at the moment but if you believe that God hasn’t left you and all things will work for your good, you will one day look back and be glad you were not rejected but rather REDIRECTED.
