I became a Canadian citizen today!
12 years ago I arrived in Canada at the age of two days before I turned 16.
To be honest, I came to Canada against my will.
But my parents want me to have a better life!
My mom would not stop crying because her first son was going to be almost 9,000 kilometres away.
And I was extremely worried because I had no idea how I was going to make friends here.
But every expectation I had of Canada has been exceeded in these 12 years.
2010: Landed as an international student in grade 12 and met one of my best friends (my roommate)
2011: Joined Carleton University in Ottawa and met my my other best friends.
2016: Graduated from University and started my first job in tech sales.
2019: Got married to the most incredible woman and founded @the3Skills
2020: Landed a job at my dream company and bought a new home with my wife.
2022: Became a Canadian Citizen and bought our second home.
But those are just the highlights- there was lots of struggle in between.
From being laid off from my first job, to crashing on friends couches because I ran out of money during school to missing major milestones with family.
The highs and lows are all just part of the journey.
My whole family will be together next week to celebrate this milestone.
Thank you mom and dad! Your sacrifices were worth it.
And thank you for welcoming me with open arms Canada.
This is The Canadian Dream!
