Lady Who Got Laid Off During A Zoom Meeting, Lands Job With Google
A young vibrant lady named Mari Aizawa has shared how loosing her job made her heartbroken and was so scared to break the news to her family because they’ve sacrificed so much for her. The good news is she got hired by Google.
Read her lengthy post as shared on LinkedIn below;
I was in Japan visiting my family two months ago when I got laid off by Gopuff all of a sudden. It was 4:30 in the morning when I woke up to work and my accounts were deactivated. I then had a zoom meeting to be told I was let go due to the company restructuring.
I was heartbroken. I didn’t know how to break the news to my family because they have sacrificed so much for me to be where I am today, and they were incredibly proud of me. I pretended as if nothing happened for at least half of the day, having breakfast and lunch with my family with a smile on my face, until I couldn’t do it anymore. When I finally broke the news, the first thing my mom said was “YOU ARE KIDDING” and I started crying because I thought I let my family down. (By the way, it was April fools, the worst day they could have chosen lol)
This journey had been very emotional for my family and me. But my family always showed me love and support. My mom would wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning just to make me a cup of tea and cheer me up when I had interviews. (She truly is the best and I already miss her so much)
After lots and lots of interviews and having some time to reflect and reset, I am so excited to share that this week I have started my new position at Google in Mountain View as a Technical Sourcer via Adecco, where I will be mainly recruiting for Hardware Engineering teams for Pixel. (Send hardware engineers my way!)
I can’t express my excitement enough that I get to be a part of this amazing team. I am so lucky to have Chris as my lead and Britney and Jamil as my mentors/buddies. Everyone I’ve met has been very welcoming and supportive. I can already confirm that the culture here is amazing (so is the office and other benefits that come with it :))! I am beyond excited about this new chapter of my life!
Throughout the journey, I have met wonderful people supporting me, and I am grateful for you💚 You guys overwhelmed me with kindness. I am forever thankful for all the support I have received from my family, friends, and the LI community! Seriously, you guys rock!
It breaks my heart to see so many people going through layoffs. But it is true what people say. When one door closes, another opens. I am here to support you guys in any way I can. I want to pay it forward for the support I’ve received going through this difficult journey. I can try connecting you with Recruiters when I receive InMails for recruiting roles. I will of course share the roles I will be working on at Google once I’m done onboarding. I’ll think of some other ways as well! I am here for you. Stay strong, your time is coming💚
Much love,
Mari
