18-Year-Old Programmer, Developes Waste Collection Robot Capable Of Picking Up Waste In Public Spaces, Meet, Xaviera Nguefo

18-year-old Xaviera Nguefo, a Cameroonian programmer, developed a waste collection robot capable of automatically picking up waste in public spaces and depositing it in bins, recycling centres and other processing sites in record time.

The young programmer and student first created the robot during the First Global international robotics competition, where she represented her home country, Cameroon.

The competition was held in Dubai in 2019, and the challenge was to develop robots that could solve community problems.

Xaviera developed the device with the aim of contributing to the sanitation of the continent through technology.

“In order to program something useful for society and confront the ongoing issue of waste pollution, I developed a remote-controlled waste treatment robot capable of picking up and disposing of debris to a defined area, such as a garbage can or recycling center. The innovation saw me win the inaugural Margaret Junior Prize by JFD.” , said Xaviera.

The invention of this waste collection robot has helped Kowo gain international recognition award. The device won her the Margaret Award in the Junior Africa category.

The young and dynamic programmer is now encouraging the education of young girls in technology and robotics.
