26 year old man named
Nnanna Ukoji who just bagged a PHD, shares briefly how his father died during his PHD program and he was not present at his burial.

Says he experienced high and low time during his journey.

Sharing the story on LinkedIn, he wrote:

Cheers to my milestone accomplishment (PhD at 26 🤩)🎉🎉🎉🎉

I’m overly excited to have successfully completed my PhD journey which began exactly 46 months ago. My research focused on investigating the behaviour of materials under extreme conditions such as high temperature and pressure, to help enrich our knowledge of their chemical and structural properties.

Honestly, there have been both high and low times throughout this journey. A few years into my PhD program, I lost my father (Late Chief Dan Ukpai Mba Ukoji) who was my greatest cheerleader. I literally felt my world crashing down on me when I was notified of his demise.

To make matters worst, I couldn’t be present for his funeral due to the COVID travel restrictions. That was indeed the lowest time of my PhD journey.

Thanks to my supervisor Prof. John Tse for his love, support and encouragement through the tough times. To my amazing friends Adebayo A., Ph.D. , Hammed E. , Jude A. Okolie, Ph.D , Stephen Owuamanam , Peter Bankole ,Jude Dugbere ,Akinola Ogbeyemi , your relentless support is greatly appreciated. Also, to my science outreach Director – Lana Elias, thank you for being such an amazing and overly supportive person.

I’m sure every member of the team have a thousand and one good words to say about you. Finally, to my family- Mrs. Ima-obong Ukoji, Mrs. Cecilia Ukoji Okachukwu Ukoji, Obasi Ukoji, Adaoma Ukoji, Eng. Awa Osonwa, Mr. and Mrs. Ibe Mba and Barr. John Awa Kalu, thank you all so much for the unwavering love and support.

Congratulations Dr. Ukoji
