Childhood Friends Are The Co-founders Of Repurpose Schoolbags, A Set Of Bags With Solar Power Technology That Lights Up At Night, Helping Children With Reading

When South African childhood friends and later entrepreneurs Thato Kgatlhanye and Rea Ngwane finished high school, they knew they wanted to start something that impacted young people and underprivileged communities.

Thato Kgatlhanye , is the co-founder and CEO of Repurpose Schoolbags, a set of bags with solar power technology that lights up at night, helping children with reading.

The bags also feature reflective material which enables more visibility in the darkness.

Repurpose Schoolbags are made from discarded plastic shopping bags recycled into textile.

Each schoolbag is made up 20 plastic bags.

The impact Thato made was teach communities the value of waste.

Since her childhood, Kgatlhanye was given the choice of deciding which schools she would like to attend; thus fueling her independent spirit.

Kgatlhanye is not only in business for the profit but for the ethical standpoint.

She was selected as the 2014 first runner-up of the Anzisha Prize, where she won $15,000.

Kgatlhanye advises young entrepreneurs to trust their gut and admits that she has decided to lose mentors in the past simply because they shared different visions.
