04:04:2005 – 04:04:2022
It was a sunny Friday afternoon in December 2004, Lagos sun was blazing in all its glory, I had invited my younger sister to a job fair holding at Eko Hotels. I headed out to join her from Adeola Hopewell, I was a banker then.
Together with my sister, we visited the booths dilligently, she filled every form available and was full of hope. For a reason I can’t explain, I turned and my eyes were on the Philips Consulting booth. We made our way there and met a gentleman by name Peter.
Over the years I have struggled to remember his surname and face but somehow, the memory eludes me. Talk about Angels! Peter focused on me and kept asking ‘why I did not want to change jobs.’ Can’t remember my exact answer, it was ‘No’ as I was Head Internal Control at the bank then.
At every opportunity I re-directed him to my sister, he went on to ask in a jocular manner , ‘if you had to change your job, which sector will you prefer?’ I responded ‘oil & gas but I am willing to give Telecoms a try.’ The Monday after, i received a mail from Peter with 3 job profiles attached. The rest as they say is history!
It’s been 17 years of growth, joy and purpose with MTN . Did i hear you say what’s the weather like? My forecast is; ‘the future is bolder and brighter!’
Happy work anniversary to moi.
