Man Who Had Over 30 Scholarship Rejections Finally Succeeds, Completes His PhD Abroad, Gets 2 Job Offers

Freeman Brobbey Owusu, ACCA grew up with the passion to pursue a career least respected in his home country of Ghana – teaching!
This dream saw him through a successful undergraduate degree with a First Class in BSc Administration (accounting major) Freeman was selected to be a teaching assistant which meant it was going to be easy to proceed to pursue a Master (MPhil) after national service, indeed it was.
But, things did not go as expected in his hunger for a Ph.D. degree.
Freeman applied to more than 30 universities but the decisions always had that common line – “unfortunately, you do not qualify for a scholarship at this time“.
Depression and frustration set in after several unsuccessful attempts.
He tried reaching out to many of his friends to put him into contact with supervisors so he could start his Ph.D. because he was not ready to let go of this dream of doing a Ph.D.
One day a friend of Owusu contacted him and told him about a Ph.D. scholarship in China 🇨🇳, he didn’t even think twice about it he went ahead to submit his application and was successful.
Within the next couple of weeks after getting admission he left Ghana 🇬🇭.
Whilst in China, he looked for an opportunity to teach at the university but it wasn’t possible because among other things he couldn’t speak Chinese.
He started reaching out to friends again to see if he could get an opportunity to come to either Europe, America, or Australia.
After several applications and contacts, he managed to secure government funding.
Within a month after receiving his funding letter, he withdrew from his Ph.D. in China having completed the 1st semester.
He came to the UK to start his Ph.D. again thinking that the struggle was over. Little did he know there were many other hurdles to overcome whilst in the UK.
After 1st year, his sponsorship was ceased. The 2nd year was a very tough year for him but with the help of his supervisor, he sailed through that difficult year.
Guess what, he was transferred to the University of Nottingham, one of the universities he had applied to severally years back but never got funding for a Ph.D. there.
By losing his funding along the line, He got a part-time teaching job and through that managed to secure himself a permanent job ( had offers from 2 universities at the same time) even before completing his Ph.D.
Difficult times are not always meant to frustrate you but to position you well for opportunities………..
