MY INDUSTRIAL TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Today makes it a week I rounded up my Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme program at Nigerian Breweries Plc.

This program provides an avenue for students in higher institutions to acquire industrial skills and experience in their approved course of study.

During my stay I was able to learn from the Brewing department, Utilities (service providers), Packaging and Quality control. It was really interesting to see them prioritise safety, effectively plan and put critical eye on processes in the brewery and their ability to recognize possible improvements.

A lot of what I learnt in class such as Separation Processes, Biochemical Engineering, Heat Transfer, Equipments Selection and Design, Process Optimisation etc came up during my internship and that knowledge base proved helpful and applicable.

I now have an understanding of my field in a manufacturing environment from an operational improvement and project management perspective.

My daily tasks included: stock taking and balancing, updating the cellar information board, sample tap audit then my learning program.
I also worked as the Assistant Data Admin Manager of the Brewing department. I learnt proper inventory taking and worked with Microsoft Excel software and also Qualass when I worked with the lab for a few days.

The processes I found really interesting were the whirlpool operation, steam generation, combi-cleaner operation and off course how the hammer mill crushed grains to grist!😅.

During my free time, I enjoyed reading some journals by Institute of Brewing & Distilling I found in the store, going to the canteen, meeting other interns like Adebola Adewale GMNSE and generally having conversations with other workers at my department.

The experience was also fun filled.

Nigerian Breweries Plc has an amazing work culture, different varieties of personalities, good investment in infrastructure and technologies, an orderly and organised system etc and I am glad I could have my internship there.

I am grateful to the managers, operators and brewers that were really intentional about my learning, especially the Shift Manager-Brewing Richard Usang and the Brewing Process Trainer Lamidi Mamadu.
Special thanks to the Brew Panel Operator; nwadiugwu dominic, Tankroom Operator; Nnaemeka Daniel and Idowu Adeniran, the Filterroom Operator and many others. They really aided my learning as I could freely meet them anytime.

This internship indeed came with the opportunity to explore careers and network.
Thank you for reading till this point. See you again on my IT defense day😊.
