Shoemakergirl as people normally call me but my real name is Edna Frimpong. I am in level 300 studying Public Relations at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Someone who wil ask why this profession, yes, i was born into such family. My father is a professional shoemaker.
What motivated you to start up Fash_slippers?
The Advent of shoe making business over the years has been affiliated toward the male gender only. As a young lady whose dad was into shoemaking production, i witnessed, loved and appreciate the various styles and ways at which making footwears propelled me also into starting to make my own footwears.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my source of inspiration from God at the first place. Because he has already assured me that no matter what I do I will succeed. That has kept me going. I also draw my inspiration from the fact that I’m a woman fighting in a male dominated industry.
Finally I have always wanted to continue my father business and run it. Now here I am continuing and working him in the same industry.

How do you source for the materials you use for your slippers, are they also durable?
All the leathers used are from Ghana and sometimes Italy. Because our focus is on quality, all necessary materials are durable and quality.
Did you attend any form of training?
I didn’t attend any training to acquire thus skills. Maybe because my dad was into this work, I used to work with him when I was very young. He thought me many things in the business even though I was a female and young.
While we were younger, we had dreams of being in different profession, would you say this is what you’ve always wanted to do?
I had always wanted to have many businesses and get myself good education. Here I am doing what I love best. Apart from this business, I have other side business we are working on. So for me, I’m very happy I find myself in the entrepreneurial space.
What are the major challenges you’ve encountered and also setback you’ve faced doing this business?
The major challenge is that, this industry Is male dominated.
Another challenge confronting me is getting the right people to work with but gradually, that issue is tackled.
What is the most pleasant comments you’ve ever received from your customer?
Personally I received lots of good comments from people. Some applaud me to continue with this. Personally i don’t get people passing unpleasant comment.
Most people get inspired by what I do and always ready to help me out.
Talented entrepreneurs hardly get support from the government in Africa, how does this affect you?
Yes in African getting support becomes difficult. All SMEs business always have to search for thier own funds. Here in Ghana, government keeps promising the entrepreneurs and giving us hope but to no avail. The environment isn’t safe. Because standard of living is high, people purchasing power has become difficult for us to operate.
In Ghana here, no support for government, only you, your God and your clients.
It’s sad hoping one day this narrative will change.
Where do you see your brand 5 years?
In five years to come, fash_slippers will be a household and global brand proving the best, quality, functional and comfortable footwears.
