Young Lady Who Has Been Schooling In The U.K For A Year Now Shares Advise For Upcoming Students

Pretty lady named
Cynthia Ogumba has admonished young aspiring student hoping to school in the U.K on the do’s and don’t.

One year ago today, I took a flight to Manchester using Ethiopian Airlines to resume my schooling here in the UK.

It’s been one year of unlearning and relearning, meeting new people and having worthwhile experiences. I’ve loved it all and I’m excited about the future.

Here is my advice for the incoming set;

  1. Chill
    I know everything is happening so fast, take a moment to catch your breath. Take some pictures, you’re here already. Breathe!!!
  2. Start with the basics.
    Welcome to the abroad. You’d need your NIN. You’d need to open a bank account. You’d need to get your timetable and school details all sorted. You’d also need to revamp your CV. Use your isolation period wisely!!!
  3. Go for your classes
    For those schooling, please take your lectures seriously. Go to class or join online, ask questions, talk to your classmates and lecturers. Don’t ditch school. If you are the library type, visit the library and get acquainted with the academic system. Tuition is so expensive so please study!!!
  4. Look for a part-time job
    Visit indeed, Reed, totaljobs etc to search for part-time opportunities. Set up your profile on these job sites and upload your revamped CV. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is updated too. Apply!!!
  5. Socialise and have fun
    The truth is schooling and working part-time abroad is quite a hassle and it’s usually difficult to combine that with a healthy social life. But don’t forget to have fun, socialise and meet new people. You get information from conversations especially here where you’re still trying to adjust. Talk to people!!!
  6. Travel
    This is for a lot later when you’re a bit settled. You can decide to visit new sites within or outside your residence. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a new country because that might be too expensive for you as a student. But you can try a new city or a new county. Explore!!!

Feel free to add more advice.

Wishing you the very best as you come in.
