Katsina government reveals where Kankara students will be taken to after rescue Earlier, Governor Masari denied claims that the Kankara students in Katsina were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. Masari told journalists on Wednesday, December 16, that based on available information, the students were abducted by local bandits who mainly reside in Zamfara and stretch their domain to Katsina. The leader of the insurgent group, Abubakar Shekau, had claimed that terrorists were responsible for the kidnap of the boys as a way of further driving home the rejection of Western education.

However, the governor clarified that he was not by this position overruling the possibility that bandits in the state have contacts with insurgents both locally and internationally.

He said: “I’m not absolutely discounting any foreign, either ISWAP or Boko Haram, indirectly working with the bandits.

“With regards to this abduction, we have not seen yet any direct involvement of Boko Haram or ISWAP. However, we are watching the development. “We are seeing through the evidence that we have; we are going through the tracking system that we have in place to find out if there is any linkage.”
