COVID-19 cases in Nigeria are on the rise despite efforts to check the spread of the disease.

The information released by the health agency indicated that Lagos state had the highest number of COVID-19 infections for the day with 280 cases, followed by Oyo with 103 infections. The NCDC said other states with infections for the day include: Ebonyi-72, Abuja-60, Imo-46; Edo-34; Delta-33; Rivers-25; Kaduna-23; Ondo-16; Katsina-12; Kano-10; Bauchi-8; Borno-7; Kwara-5; Gombe-4; Sokoto-2; Enugu-2; Yobe-1; Osun-1 and Nasarawa-1 State by state breakdown of Covid-19 cases in Nigeria as total exceeds 11,000 The health agency stated that a total of 18,480 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country, while 6,307 patients have been discharged and 475 deaths have been recorded.

Meanwhile, in spite of the daily increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed concern that some people in rural communities don’t believe the dangers of the virus, Nigerian Tribune reports. The agency made this known through the director-general, Dr. Garba Abari, during the presentation of its observations on sensitization activities in the fight against coronavirus. The NOA while raising the alarm explained that the disbelief among rural communities of the impact and dangers the virus poses is a serious risk to Nigeria.

Though Nigerians are aware of the deadly virus, some still do not believe the danger and impact of COVID-19. NOA also added that Nigerians generally disobey the prevention protocols. Nigeria’s total COVID-19 cases exceed 10,000 Dr Abari said that many Nigerians in order to avoid security agencies only make use of face masks or if they find themselves in a place where it becomes compulsory.
