Who Predicts COVID-19 Cases Will soon reach 1 million All Over The World

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) has hinted of the possibility of cases of the coronavirus reaching one million globally

  • Its Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, revealed that there has been an exponential growth in cases in the last five weeks

  • He went on to say that it is very possible for the world to record one million COVID-19 cases soon.

World Health Organisation (WHO) has predicted that the world would soon record one million cases of the coronavirus. According to WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the last five weeks have recorded a near exponential growth in the number of new cases. He stated on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, that the virus has reached “almost every country, territory, and area.

The number of deaths has more than doubled in the past week.”

He added that it is very likely one million COVID-19 cases would be confirmed soon. Per a Business Insider report, he went on to say that even though Africa, Central, and South America have recorded relatively lower cases, the COVID-19 would soon have social, economic and political effects for these regions. For that reason, he explained that it is crucial these places are well-equipped to detect, test, isolate and treat COVID-19 cases as well as identify contacts. To him, it is heartwarming to realize that such practices are being undertaken in several countries in spite of the limited resources. In his opinion, even though several countries are asking their citizens to stay at home in order to limit infections, there could be unintended consequences for the poor and vulnerable in society.

Ghebreyesus revealed that he has encouraged governments to implement social welfare measures to ensure that vulnerable people are catered for in these times.
