  • He says some clients would even offer to pay N20,000 to build a website, an offer he would accept sadly

  • Essien now charges N1.9m to create a website years after his service was underpriced.

A Nigerian man identified as Ayo Essien has shared an inspiring story of how he began his journey as a website developer who was charging 40,000 naira for a job.

Essien, who shared his story on LinkedIn on Thursday, March 19, said after he quit his job that was paying him N50,000 monthly, he founded a company that develops website.

According to Essien, some clients would offer to pay his company N20,000 to build a website even when he was charging 40,000. He said: “Many of which I accepted in humility knowing I was going somewhere and building my catalogue of past jobs.”

Essien said a lady who had a growing brand offered his company N15,000 to build a website for her, which he accepted sadly. He said: “We did it, but I felt sad and hurt. Will I ever earn enough to at least be stable a bit at this rate, I’ll ask myself and mentors? Anyways I kept going.” Essien said he discovered he was selling his product to the wrong market and decided to market himself so the right market could notice his company. The web developer said: “Then I evaluated my personality type, I realized because of my wiring and personality I would do better marketing in some certain way online and offline. “So I began implementing these solutions and started seeing amazing results over time.”

Essien’s fortune changed when he first had client that paid N1.5m for two web projects. His company also received another client that paid N2.8m for an IT-related project.

His company also had another client that paid N1.9m for a web/app development project.
