General Overseer, Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Reverend Sam Aboyeji, has revealed how he found his wife while speaking in tongues.

Read excerpts from his chat with Alexander Okere below:

You said God communicated to you about your wife before you met her. So, how did you meet her?

I met my wife on campus and it was an interesting encounter. We entered the University of Ilorin in the same year and because of our love for God, we immediately joined a fellowship. There was a crusade held at the College of Education, Ilorin, and we were all busy trying to make sure the crusade was successful. On one of the nights of the crusade, I returned to my hostel and slept. But I woke and started praying; I heard myself praying in tongues and interpreting it. In the process, I mentioned her name, saying she would be my wife. As soon as I did that, I opened my eyes to see whether anyone heard me.

Were you in a relationship with her at that time?

We were not close at that time, so I prayed about it, and to the glory of God, I eventually took a step to talk to her. But she didn’t accept. She was a first-year medical student and felt it was too early to start talking about things like that. I actually felt the same way. But when you know that God is talking to you, you just have to take a step. When she refused, I left her and didn’t talk to her for the next two years. But in the beginning of my fourth year, I told God I needed to resolve the marital issue before graduating. I prayed about it and God told me He had not changed His mind. So, I was forced to go back to her, as difficult as it was for me.

When I asked her again, her response was shocking. She just broke down and said she had also been praying about it, adding that it was after she rejected the proposal that God revealed to her that I was her husband. She said though she wondered how she would cope with the things surrounding her, she had been praying for me to come back, considering that it was traditionally wrong for a woman to go to a man.
