In an interview, Winfrey stated that having children would require a lot of time and energy and she is not capable of compartmentalizing like other women.
Almost every society believes that a woman should strive to make money and have a nice career but more often than not, she is expected to settle down with the love of her life, have a grand wedding and produce children as per nature’s design.
However, a few women have chosen to deviate from the norm and lived life on their own terms. One of such people is one of the richest black women on the planet, Oprah Winfrey, who is worth almost a trillion naira.
In a recent interview, Winfrey who has been with her partner Stedman Graham for over 30 years revealed why she chose not to get married or have kids.
Speaking to People, she stated that she has spent a lot of time speaking to people who deal with serious issues and although she once nursed the idea of having children, especially after she got engaged to Graham in 1992, she realised it would require a lot of time and energy and she is unable to compartmentalize like other women. The media mogul said: “I realized, ‘Whoa, I’m talking to a lot of messed-up people, and they are messed up because they had mothers and fathers who were not aware of how serious that job is’. “I don’t have the ability to compartmentalize the way I see other women do. It is why, throughout my years, I have had the highest regard for women who choose to be at home [with] their kids, because I don’t know how you do that all day long.
Nobody gives women the credit they deserve.”
Meanwhile, Winfrey visited a university in the US to make a huge donation. Winfrey was at Morehouse College to surprise students and teachers with another $13 million donations to continue the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Fund she established 30 years ago. The media mogul established the scholarship fund in 1989 with an initial $12 million
